The Gooner is the best selling independent Arsenal fanzine which, since its launch in 1987, has aimed to provide a platform where the complete spectrum of Gunners supporters’ views can be expressed. There is no editorial line in terms of what we will publish, running very much an open house policy. For this reason, it is the natural home for many of the debates and counter views that go hand in hand with being a Gooner in modern times.
The Gooner publishes regularly throughout the football season, so a 12 month subscription will typically deliver 10 issues, each of which is packed with 48 full colour pages of contributions from a wide cross section of the Arsenal fan base providing intelligent, passionate and often humorous analysis of the goings-on at Arsenal FC, both on and off the pitch. In addition you will also shortly have access to our catalogue of digital back issues which dates back to the start of the 2010/11 season plus the special edition we published in 2009 to commemorate our 200th issue.
The trial issue from October 2011 reflects the battered and bruised face of Arsenal on the front cover as we lick our wounds after the worst start to a season in living memory, on which there is plenty of comment inside including an enthralling piece by Nadim Naaman which concludes that we have fallen foul of the most monumental mental crisis since the Carling Cup Final.
Elsewhere in the issue, there is an interview with a member of the Black Scarf Movement who were behind the billboard poster opposite the stadium at the start of the season and we also have an article entitled Smells Like Arsenal Spirit which recalls some of the more infamous on-field (mostly) scraps our players have got into over the years. Plus many of our regular features – Talking Reds, Mickey Cannon, Anger Management, In The Away End and readers letters.
