TOP: It’s high summer on the North Wales coast as 40 036 powers along at the head of a Manchester to Bangor service on the 26th August 1981.

CENTRE: A summer Saturday Llandudno to York train leaves the Welsh resort on 29th August 1981 behind 40 047. Standing in the carriage sidings is a two-coach DMU and a 47 with the empty stock for a train to London Euston.

LOWER: A Holyhead to Euston express rolls into Bangor behind 47 462, in the late morning of 24th August 1981.
