A Hole in the Road Wood, Jakki from Frances Lincoln (p18) A lively and colourful information book on a favourite topic for preschool children.

Class Three All At Sea Jarman, Julia; Chapman, Lynne, illus from Hodder (p18) Lots of detail to spot and the all important treasure at the end. A good addition to any pirate story collection!

Eliot Jones, Midnight Superhero Cottringer, Anne; Smith, Alex, illus from Scholastic (p19) Scholastic have signed this talented new illustrator to a four book deal and this is their lead picture book. Superhero theme, funny story, great cover!

Gullane Children’s Books

Grandpa’s Boat Catchpool, Michael; Williams, Sophy, illus from Andersen Press (p16) This is both sensitively written and beautifully drawn to lend real emotion and atmosphere to the story. One to read with tissues at the ready.

Harris Finds His Feet Rayner, Catherine from Little Tiger Press (p18) I adored this story of a journey to independence. The superb cover will look wonderful in any spring display.

I Don’t Want a Posh Dog Dodd, Emma from Orchard Books (p19) Cleverly matches illustrations to text and shows us all kinds of greedy, needy and weedy dogs. Dog lovers and young children will adore it!

Mammoth Pie Willis, Jeanne; Ross, Tony, illus from Andersen Press (p16) Full of comical detail that will delight children and adults alike from an award-winning duo.

Two adorable characters come to life in a touching story. Simultaneous hardback and paperback publication.

Penguins Pinchon, Liz from Gullane (p21) Amusing tale of penguins having fun with a camera. Ideal for the very young.

Molly and the Night Monster Wormell, Chris from Jonathan Cape (p16) Perfect bedtime reading for those children who fear the monster under the bed.

Gullane Children’s Books

The Bog Baby Millward, Gwen from Puffin (p23) This is very unusual and Puffin are keen. It may not be to everyone’s liking but in paperback it could do well for the slightly older child.

Scholastic Children’s Books

For Everyone To Share Lobel, Gillian; Howarth, Daniel, illus from Gullane (p17) Bursting with colour this is another title ideal for spring. I find Gullane produce some lovely, sweet picture books ideal for the target market. Toddlers will love Little Mouse as he ventures out into the world.

Little Tiger Press

The No-No Bird Peters, Andrew Fusek; Coplestone, Jim, illus from Frances Lincoln (p18) Great fun and vibrant illustrations make this an engaging new take on the wide-mouth frog joke.
