Super St raggl e Snat chers! Super St raggl e Snat chers!
Every now and again along comes a new fly-tying material that changes the look of our fly boxes. Jim Crawfordasks: will Mini UV be the next phenomenon?
Afew months ago, while looking around my local tackle shop, the owner, Brian Brown, asked me if I had seen the new samples he had received from his fly-tying suppliers in Europe. When I said I hadn’t he duly gave me a packet of each of the samples of the Big Reel he had dyed in his shop to have a look at. Wow! Here was a
material, very sparse with short fibres featuring strong colours and only the subtlest of blue UV pearl occasionally peeking through the strands. This stuff looks, and acts, in the water like no other material I’ve seen and has nowhere near the amount of UV Pearlescent fibres that other Fritz have; I personally think the mix is absolutely
bang on. The material was named there and then – Mini UV Straggle Fritz. Brian’s was one of the first shops in the UK to import the original Straggle and he’s always on the lookout for new materials – so, who knows, he might even have more new things in the pipeline!
