Tying Tricks
Are you tearing out your hair at the vice? Well, because we’re a generous bunch of souls at Today’s Flyfisher, we thought it only decent to share some pearls of wisdom.
cheeky cheeks
These cheeks are really easy to tie in and can make all the difference on lighter buzzer patterns. The biots are more durable than floss.
1Leave the tying thread at the bottom of the thorax area. Trim the thick end of the biot to 45 degrees then catch in. Repeat on the other side of the pattern.
2Finish off the fly with a thorax cover of pearl Mylar and give it a coat of superglue.
varnish-free hackle
A cracking little tip to stop varnish getting on those precious hackles and ruining your dressing.
1Tie the fly as normal and whip finish.
2Take a piece of paper and create a hole with a dubbing needle. 3 Slip the piece of paper carefully over the eye of the hook and apply varnish.
simple thorax cover
Yet another use for the humble goose biot, and very simple it is, too.
1Form the body of your buzzer or nymph. Tie in the thick end of the biot at the bottom of the thorax area.
2Create the thorax area, bring the biot up and over this area and secure before whip finishing.
