tying challenge
TyingChallenge
Here are the top three entries of the fry-tying competition along with details of the challenge for October!
1ST PR IZE :
THE PURCHASE
Hook:Partridge Big Mouth Double Tail:Orange hackle and gold Mylar tubing Body:White SLF hanks, coloured using black olive and red marker pens Fins:Orange hackle tips Eyes:Yellow bead chain eyes
This remarkably lifelike little beauty comes from an obviously talented Gavin Snowdon from Hartlepool. It’s certainly not a quick pattern to tie, but the thought and skill incorporated into the design is second to none. A perfect imitation of a young perch, we’re sure this one will excel on the reservoirs this autumn. It’s a shame Gavin only sent us one!

Tying Challenge part 6
Step up to the challenge and enter part six of the competition to stand the chance of winning some great cash prizes!
How To Enter In each issue of TFF we ask you to tie your best imitative patterns. It doesn’t have to be a close-copy pattern that takes an hour to tie – the winner is just as likely to be a simple, yet very effective-looking fly. The creators of the top three patterns each month – picked by TFF’s nameless panel of judges – will be awarded wads of cash. To enter, fill out the form and supply up to three patterns complete with details of the materials used.
The Shrimp The gammarus shrimp is often found in staggering numbers on British lakes and rivers. On lakes, shrimps seem to have been almost forgotten in these days of marabou-tailed lures and synthetic stalking bugs. The river fishers make far greater use of shrimp patterns and a pink-coloured version is perhaps THE grayling ‘bug’ in the modern river angler’s fly box. So go on, tie us your best shrimpy flies. We wait with ‘baited’ breath!
