SPRING 2006
NEWS & EVENTS9
London’s Notting Hill has become home to Forty Thieves, a stylish new carpet shop selling affordable hand-knotted rugs
STEALING THE LIMELIGHT Part of Forty Thieve’s mission statement is to commission a new artist or designer to produce a limited edition collection for each season. This winter, Naja Utzon Popov has created a Botanica range, inspired by Japanese plants and nature, in particular the dramatic transformation in colour of the leaves of the Momiji tree. For those with more gory tastes, Crimescene(above) is one of over one hundred designs from their permanent portfolio. The carpets range in price from £395-£1,350. www.fortythieves.co.uk
COLLECT IN STYLE Now in its third year, international art fair COLLECT, organised by the British Crafts Council, will take place at London’s Victoria & Albert Museum from 9 - 13 February 2006. The best contemporary applied and decorative arts from 42 of the world’s most prestigious galleries, including textiles, ceramics, furniture, glass and metal work, will be shown in conjunction with a new programme of events to encourage aspiring and established collectors. The textiles on display will include Beck, 2005 (left) by Claire Heathcote who is represented by Contemporary Applied Arts, London. www.craftscouncil.org.uk
