PRESENTATION DAY
RAF Chaplains operate at the very heart of the RAF Community, both at home and overseas. They daily strive to promote the spiritual and moral integrity of that community, enhancing the wellbeing of service personnel and their families.
Chaplains have the privilege to offer spiritual guidance and pastoral support in the midst of the challenges that confront the whole military community during their everyday lives - the inevitable dilemmas and stresses that they face both at home and during operations.
To help you explore the possibility of becoming a Chaplain
in the RAF, Chaplaincy Services (RAF) is holding
an Initial Presentation Day at
RAF College Cranwell on Tuesday 17 October 2006.
This day is open to all involved in ordained or licensed Christian Ministry,
Theological Students and their Spouses.

church everything it needs to do that.’ Two years in development, Growing Leaders is an offshoot of the internationally acclaimed Arrow Leadership Programme. Arranged in three 10-week modules, Growing Leaders is a one-year programme covering not only the skills of leadership, but addresses issues of character, call and community. The Growing Leaders pack includes three leaders’ manuals, a paperback book and a CD-ROM carrying training videos, publicity material and participants’ handouts. It costs just £60. During 2006, CPAS has run a series of training days to equip churches to use the Growing Leaders material. Each day looks at the principles underlying the course as well as the practicalities of setting it up. There are eight training days scheduled for the autumn, with new venues and locations being added regularly. Details can be found at: www.cpas.org.uk/growing. The combination of group work, teaching and mentoring proved a winner. The material is of a consistently high standard, is easy to use and works well with people from varied backgrounds.

OBITUARY
The Revd John Mudd January 3, 1913 – July 11, 2006 All John wanted to do was to give God the glory
LYNCH CHAPEL, Winscombe, was full for the service of thanksgiving for the life of the Revd John Mudd. He was a gentle man of God,full of fun, keenly aware of the needs of others and with a faith anchored in a deep personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Born in Shensi in China – both his parents were missionaries there – he and his two younger brothers, Harry and Stanley, attended a boarding school in England. John received a call to ministry and was accepted for training at Bristol Baptist College. On his ordination he returned to China,as a BMS missionary in 1939.While there,he met and married Mary, who was working as a nurse in a Chinese hospital. The couple returned to England when they were thrown out of China during the communist revolution of the late 1940s. John had his first pastorate at Maidenhead Baptist Church between 1951 and 1957.He also worked for some time for Dr Barnados and then ran the Missionary Guest House in Selly Oak. After moving to Winscombe in 1975,he became involved with Lynch Chapel and then returned to the pastorate after receiving a call to Wedmore and Bagley
Baptist Churches, where he served between 1979 and 1983. Mary died in 1983,having been ill for some time.John had nursed her. The family was delighted when he announced that he was to marry Betty and they shared 20 years of happiness and were devoted to each other. John was a faithful minister of the Word of God,diligent in preparation, ready and willing to listen and give sound loving advise to those who asked. On June 14,1980 John laid the foundation stone for the new building extension at Bagley Baptist Church,he refused to have his name written on it.Instead, the inscription reads:‘June 14th 1980.This stone was laid to the Glory of God.’ Everything about John was for the Glory of God and we give thanks for a great servant of Jesus Christ who radiated his faith and faithfulness. The church family at Lynch, joined with representatives of the wider Baptist family, with Betty and her family, with John’s children,Janet and Adrian, grandchildren Louise and Rachael and their families to celebrate the long life of a wonderful man. The service was as John would have wanted – to give God the Glory.
THE EDITOR welcomes contributions for our obituary column. Submissions should be no longer than 400 words, giving details of key events of the person’s life. These include place and date of birth, coming to faith, meeting marriage partner and their work for God. We also want to ensure that each obituary includes a head and shoulders photo of the deceased.
