RICHARD BURBRIDGE, IGGY POP, 1999
“It was a privilege for me to meet this man who I have enormous respect for and who has inspired many with his genius. I had the idea of putting clown make-up on him. He came to the studio angry that I wanted to portray him that way. I took some pictures and he warmed to me so I had an opportunity to ask again about the clown. He agreed but stopped at the mouth. This Polaroid was shot as the f i rst picture. Without waiting the 90 seconds it takes a Polaroid to develop, I furiously shot 22 sheets of f i lm as fast as I could, fearing he might change his mind. I remember so clearly the timer indicating the Polaroid was ready to be pulled. I grabbed it and on seeing the picture I ended the shoot. I knew I had my shot.”
ARI MARCOPOULOS, ETHAN, 1999 “This Polaroid is of my son lying on the bed with a model of a Velociraptor skeleton. Polaroids are unpredictable – even though they don’t make the sharpest of photos, the colours are often beautiful and the image is always one of a kind.”
ANDRE WOLFF, CHATEAU ROUGE, 2001 “In the photo are two dear friends of mine Jonas and Emanuel, who were staying in my place at the time. It was one of these summers where everything was possible and anything could happen, and it did...”
