Art Monthly Australia is a dynamic visual arts magazine containing lively commentary, news and reviews on the visual arts, which is distributed throughout Australia and internationally. We are committed to representing all Australian states and territories to a local, national and international audience.

Art Monthly is the only monthly visual arts magazine in Australia, and publishes ten issues each year between March and December, including the popular Artnotes section which features events, news and exhibitions from all states and territories across Australia, New Zealand and the Asia/Pacific region.

In the trial issue Joanna Barrkman examines two Top End printmaking initiatives involving artists from Darwin, Yirrkala (Arnhem Land) and Amarasi (West Timor); The National Gallery of Victoria’s commitment to design and decorative arts is further explored in Andrew Montana’s double-take on their recent, major Art Deco exhibition, combined with a review of the Powerhouse Museum (Sydney)’s equally ambitious Modern Times: The Untold Story of Modernism in Australia.

Anna Eggert’s translations of Muslim dress also signify an Islamic thread in this issue with Helen Musa reporting from Tehran’s First International Fajr, Matthias Krug reporting from Doha and its new Museum of Islamic Art, and Paul Donnelly on Wollongong’s retrospective exhibition of Alan Peascod’s ceramic art with its rich Islamic foundation.
