Total Flyfisher - May 2010
SnowbeeLaunchesNext Generation Of Tackle Snowbee has released plenty of new items this year – here’s a selection of some of its finest, to whet your appetite…
TOTAL FLYFISHER 80
Diamond Rods Well, what can we say about these great rods? Firstly they are now in a four-piece construction instead of three, which means they will be great rods to take on holiday and store away easily. This change hasn’t detracted from their middle-to-tip action, however, as it’s still fantastic.
All of the rods have undergone an upgrade, including improvements to the cork handles, and the selection includes two brand-new models, which means there are a staggering 22 rods in the range! From £99.
Geo 790 Fly Reel Reels are another range of products that Snowbee has extended in 2010. The ‘Geo’ l ightweight range now includes a fresh cassette version of the Geo 790 large-arbor model and also two large salmon/saltwater reels. At just £189 the new, clear-cassette version of the 790 is very lightweight indeed, meaning you won’t feel the effects of a long day’s fishing and casting will be effortless! It’s safe to say that this is one of the lightest reels on the market and will serve you well for years. £189.
Leader Material Every angler has their own preference when it comes to leader material, but Snowbee’s brandnew Fluorotec leader has all the makings of being one of the best. It has a high knot strength, it’s smooth and supple and features a high abrasion resistance – just what you need for peace of mind and excellent performance on the bank. £12 for 100m 6lb spool.
New Fly Selections With more than 30 great flies to take a look at, you really are spoilt for choice with this selection. Whether you’re boat, bank or predator fishing there is a fly to suit your needs.
All the flies are based on modern designs and use the latest materials and expert fly tyers to create perfect flies on top-quality hooks. From £9.95.
Clothing Clothing is an area where Snowbee really excels; you only have to pick up an item of its clothing to notice the featurepacked designs and see the effort that has gone into constructing it.
It’s hard to look at the whole range, but two items that stand out for us are the Breeze Bloc fleeces and the excellent Geo wading vest.
The vest is available in two contrasting styles that allow you to select the appropriate style to suit your fishing. The short wading vest and the fly vest are both made in a sage olive CVC material, and the brushedcotton finish means that they dry quickly – perfect. Wading vest £57; fly vest £65.
Nets When buying a net you need to make sure that it’s lightweight, tough and has a good-quality mesh – these nets have all of these attributes and more.
Both of the new nets for 2010 feature telescopic handles; one is designed for boat fishing while the other is a three-in-one river-and-bank combination. The latter cleverly comes with two handles, allowing you to mix and match depending on the venue you’re fishing, either river or bank. Boat net £37; telescopic net £27.
