BOW-WOW, WOW! One of textile artist Laura McCafferty’s current projects is a large scale monochrome textile design taken from a photo of people and their dogs, entitled The Crufts Misfits (sneak preview above). The textile is being made for ‘Best in Show’, an exhibition of work by 7 contemporary artists looking at mans’ best friend, at the Millennium Galleries in Sheffield, UK, this summer. Laura explains “It will be

inspired by people and their relationships with their dogs. Some will have helped their owners through difficult times and others are part of the family.”Funded by Sheffield Millennium Galleries Trust and The Arts Council Laura aims to raise awareness for the RSPCA. After Sheffield the textile will be on show at London’s 100% Design in September. 13 May- 22 July 2007 www.sheffieldgalleries.org.uk

PUTTING THE TEXT IN TEXTILES Textile artist Fiona Zobole was one of many exhibitors at the sixth Contemporary Textiles Fair at the Landmark Art Centre in Teddington, UK on 10-11 March 2007. Her work was part of the small display entitled ‘Sensory Area’, showing textiles made to challenge the senses. Captions next to all the pieces includeddetails in braille, which enhanced the contextof Zobole’s white on white textiles. Both textural and textual her work, like 20/20 Vision, a screen printed canvas, (below), explores form, content, and the accessibility of text. She was also part of the ‘New Faces Showcase’ at the V&A, London this spring. www.fionazobole.co.uk
