Keeping It Real…
We’ve heard many, many stories over the years regarding fake guitars, but even we were shocked at the scale of the organised production and distribution of counterfeit instruments when putting together this month’s cover story. It’s a situation that has caused a good deal of pain to players over the years. And from conversations and correspondence with readers we know it’s caused considerable distress, both emotional and financial. Companies such as Fender and Rickenbacker, as well as various law enforcement and legal agencies,
are now better equipped than ever at tackling the problem. However, the phrase ‘buyer beware’ has more relevance to guitar players at this time than at any point in history.
On a more positive note, there’s plenty of fine (and genuine) gear in this issue for your consideration. There are also some engrossing interviews, including Fast Eddie Clarke, as well as Mo Foster’s fascinating tales from the early days of British electric guitar playing.
In addition, the Roy Buchanan workshop is well worth your time. And we can personally vouch for the Reso Workshop – the difference it made to the donor instrument got us all slide-happy here in the office. Finally, there’s a new column from Denmark Street veteran Sid Bishop to add even more variety to our Vintage section. Enjoy the issue…
