As Joe McNamee points out, blocking images of child abuse may appear to be laudable, but it has actually become a smokescreen for political failure: not only does blocking fail to stop access to such sites, it gives politicians the appearance of taking action when in fact no concrete steps are actually being made to tackle child abuse networks. It’s evident that politicians are in urgent need of computer literate advisers, whose commitment to human rights and tackling crime transcends the urge to populism.
