Editor’s Note It’s not a matter of fate or destiny, but I do believe that things always seem to work out in the end. When I think about this concept, I add up all the things in my life that I wanted to happen, but then they didn’t, and as a result something better happened. One door closes and another one opens. I feel that if you are flexible and adaptable, it’s possible to turn any situation into a positive one. A good example of the above is how I ended up living in the UK. Nine years ago, I was travelling through northern Italy when there was a five-hour train strike. I met two British guys, and we immediately became friends. Through an inconvenience, I made some wonderful friends, came to the UK as a student, and consequentially started Aesthetica magazine. It’s funny how things work out. This issue of Aesthetica marks the beginning of our new publishing schedule. From now on, you’ll be able to get all your Aesthetica goodness six times per year. Our new publishing schedule is 1 August, 1 October, 1 December, 1 February, 1 April, and 1 June. Inside this issue are some brilliant features, from David Mitchell and Helen Oyeyemi, to Rankin, John Squire and Romuald Hazouméé, to Ken Loach and a special feature on Film4 to celebrate their 25th birthday, as well as the latest from Maximo Park, Ash, Jesse Malin and Built to Spill. Issue 18 is a tribute to the wonderfully diverse arts and cultures in the UK. I hope that you enjoy reading, and please get in touch with any ideas and suggestions. Until next time...
