We are not closing, says bar restaurant’s owner
The owner of a bar restaurant said rumours that it is closing are not true.
Café Symphony, on Rood Hill in Congleton, has been up for sale for about four years.
But its owner said the usiness is booked up ntil Christmas with no lans to shut or move. Chris Garner said: “I’ve had lots of calls from eople who have booked with us who think we are closing, but we are not.
“We got planning ermission for the bar, which is separate to the restaurant, to be turned into flats, but we’re not planning on using it. I mean, I have planning permission on my house for a development years ago. It’s nearly run out and I have no plans to act on it. It just helps increase the value of the property.”
Of Café Symphony he added: “We are booked up for weeks and for Christmas and our customers have been concerned about when it said we had got planning permission for the flats.
“They have no need to be concerned though as we have no plans to act on it and no plans to move or relocate.”
The planning permission for the listed building was for three residential flats plus a second floor rear extension and was recently approved by Cheshire East Council.
The restaurant is listed on www.rightmove.com for £325,000, the website states clearly “business not affected”.

A great ‘Dadventure’
Learning how to make a fire safely are front, from left, Harry and Ana Gear and Jack Williams. Back, from left, granddad Ailbe Sadlier, Mr Davey, volunteer Andy Lawrie, Dadventure group organiser Jack Hollings and dad Craig Williams with one-year-old Madison Williams. (“Chronicle” photo. 3409/11).
Congleton Children’s Centre was all fired up last Thursday for a “Dadventure” open day.
The event showcased the New Street centre’s Dadventure meetings, which take place every other Saturday and offer fathers and their offspring time to spend together having fun.
Support worker Brian Davey said the event also promoted the centre’s family intervention service, which helps single dads.
“About a dozen families took part with children aged up to 11. We normally arrange play activities with educational toys but sometimes we go out and learn how to start fires or build things,” he added.
To take part, call the centre on 01260 371061.
Ramblers take off on Ringway runway walk
WE PAY UP TO 50% MORE THAN THE TELEVISION ADVERTISING COMPANIES, AND WILL PAY MORE FOR RESALEABLE ITEMS
On Sunday, 21st August, nine Congleton Ramblers met on the outskirts of Styal to follow the Manchester Airport Runway Two Trail. Leaflets describing this 7.5-mile t rail , which i s accessible to walkers, cyclists and horse-riders, are available at the Aviation Viewing Park.
The f i rs t mile follows a minor road used only by residents and airport emergency vehicles, then a f ie ld path, to cross the busy A538 Wilmslow — Altrincham road a t the roundabout southeast of the road tunnels beneath the two runways. From this roundabout s teps lead up to an elevated path which soon descends to the River Bollin Tunnel.
This f ine s t ructure, 18m high by 24m wide, and 240m long, provides a clear way through for the River Bollin and emergency vehicles, as well as for walkers, r iders and wildlife of al l kinds, with bat roosts in the roof, a smallmammal corridor at the s ide and r i ff les in the s t ream bed for the comfort of f i sh.
On emerging f rom i t and f inding some convenient roads ide boulders to s i t on, the walkers took a coffee break.
The route continued by farm lanes and bridleways, round the southwest end of Runway Two. With no aircraft using this runway that day, i t was quite quiet apart f rom the f i rs t s t retch where planes were taking off overhead f rom Runway One.
Near the end of the runway the group found a quiet f ie ld for a picnic lunch. Following paths and lanes near the SE s ide of Runway Two we soon regained the River Bollin Tunnel, pausing to look at a board describing a neolithic/ early bronze age farmstead which was discovered and investigated during the cons t ruction of the new runway.
After crossing the footbridge past the mouth of the tunnel the ramblers rejoined their outward route, pausing at a f ine viewpoint for an afternoon drink and to watch the airl iners taking off and landing, culminating in the takeoff of the great Emirates A-380 Airbus. The walk concluded at 3.30pm, with general sati sfaction expressed over an interesting and rather unusual walk.
