What ab out the tre es? Once our planet had many more trees than it ha stoday. As our popula tion has increased we have cut down more trees to build t owns and cities and also t o make room for keeping a nimals an dgrowing fo od crops. Today thirt y three fo otball pitch sized areas of forest are cut down every sec ond. That is a huge number of trees destroyed to make way for human gr owth. And of course it has a bi g impact o n our planet bec ause trees help us breathe. T hey clean the air by soaking u p gases lik e carbon monoxide, sulphur di oxide and nitrogen di oxide. we can change things

It may seem like we can’t

do anything at home to stop forests being cut down. But

we can, let’s stop using so many new paper products

and choose things made

from recycled paper instead, like loo rolls and notepads.

reduce your paper use

Save trees Use me!!!

•Use both sides of every piece of paper •Pin up a large chalkboard to write messages on, rather than use paper. •Use your local library or buy books from secondhand shops

•Share books and magazines with friends •Look for recycled products like loo roll, wrapping and writing paper

fact

The averag e

family of fo ur throws

away a ton of paper

in a year. T hat’s the

same weig ht as

a car. Don ’t be

average!

The good news

is that the more

things we recycle, the

less energy is spent

making new things!
