With a magazine published every four months, and rather more than 500 British miniature railways to cover, it seems a bit of an indulgence to produce a themed issue about just 60 of them, but the 101/4-inch gauge has been through harsh days, and now looks set for a revival. New locomotives, restored locomotives, rebuilt railways and now a reborn Society, we wish the 101/4-inch gauge a happy 120th birthday (or thereabouts). Special thanks to everyone who supplied information, and apologies if we’ve missed any lines or personalities out.

On page 39 we’ve listed all of the 101/4-inch lines currently open to the public , so here’s a challenge: we’d like to hear from anyone who manages (or makes a good attempt) to visit all 46 this summer, from Newquay to Arbroath!
