Typical. Last year we had a few inches of snow for the first time in many years, but we decided not to make a snow plough because it would never happen in Dorset again... This year, before Christmas, we had six inches in one morning, and it lasted for a week. As the snow lay deep, crisp and even almost everywhere, throughout the Santa Special season, we’ve asked a few railways for their snow photos, and put together a photo special. After all, it might never happen again (but this time we WILL be making a plough, just in case!).

We’re finding that Miniature Railway is weathering the recession very well, so our grateful thanks to the many subscribers who have stuck with us during our first five years. We find the magazine sells particularly well at steam centres and preserved railways, but not all are willing to stock it. Target Number One has to be the National Railway Museum, which you really would expect to support specialist titles, but if you know of any others (or perhaps run one!) that don’t yet stock Miniature Railway, do please put in a word for us. DAVID HENSHAW
