n our brief guide to miniature gauges in issue 1 we omitted 121/4" lines, on the basis that they seemed too rare to bother about. How wrong we were! For a number of reasons, 121/4" is on the up and up: Big enough to run decent sized locomotives, but small enough to escape the more draconian railway safety legislation. Quite by chance issue 4 has evolved into 121/4" special - we report from the 121/4" Exbury Steam Railway, arguably one of the best new lines in the country, and Hotham Park in Bognor Regis, where a 101/4" line is being relaid to 121/4"! Elsewhere, new lines, old locomotives and a pair of unique narrow gauge railways.
