Cupola

Welcome to my first editorial written from MW’snew headquarters of Carrara House. The building is named after the city of Carrara in Tuscany – famed for its local marble that has gone into everything from Trajan’s column and Michaelangelo’s David to Marble Arch and the statue of Robert Burns in Dumfries. Carrara also seems to have had a somewhat turbulent history changing hands between the Romans, the Byzantines, Lombards, various duchies and even a brief stint under Elisa Bonaparte, Napoleon’s younger sister. It was also a stronghold of Mazzini during the unification of Italy and a hotbed of anarchist activity in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Plenty of inspiring history there, then.

Plenty of inspiration, too, in this issue with reports on some of the great games at September’s Colours show as well as tips for historical wargaming from the Seleucid empire to the Spanish Civil War as well as a healthy dose of sci-fi and fantasy.

MWwill be on the road again in November with a trip to Leicester for GamesCon, a new show in the East Midlands that I’m really looking forward to, and our annual pilgrimage to Reading for the always fantastic Warfare. Hope to see you there!
