THE PERSONAL IS POLITICAL ‘Radical Lace and Subversive Knitting’ at the Museum of Arts and Design, New York puts all stereotypes to rest with a challenging exhibition which runs until 17 January 2007. The techniques are stretched to the limits, from Althea Merback’s tiny, wire-knitted silk Gloves(2005, left) and Anne Wilson’s Topologies, (2002 ongoing, above) made of lace, thread, cloth and insect pins, to Janet Echelman’s expansive nylon net The Expanding Club(2007) and Cat Mazza’s computer programs commenting on sweat-shop conditions. www.madmuseum.org

THE WONDER OF WANDERS World renowned Dutch designer Marcel Wanders founded his design label Moooi – Dutch slang for nice –– in 2000. Its success is demonstrated by the opening of a Mooi Boutique in the London department store Selfridges in early 2007, selling simple sofa design Naked, which can be upholstered in 14 different funky patterns including Daddy(below) and Jester (right). www.moooi.nl
