TREND SHOPPING IN PARIS Maison et Objet in Paris is a force to be reckoned with: every possible furnishing or product for the home and garden is available to buyers at the vast Paris-Nord Villepinte, and competition is fierce. Trends seen at this year's show from 26-30January 2007 are quickly apparent: Designers looked east, in particular to Japan with a range of delicate cherry blossom and peony patterns with elegant results. Traditional ikat-inspired designs were seen on the Jim Thompson, Larsenand Sahco stands, providing distinctly contemporary results. Paisley emerged as the pattern for 2007, while black and white is a prevailing trend, applied in bold patterns and shapes with a retro 1960s feel. Natural fabrics seemed to have overtaken minimalism:organic shades could be seen on the stands of Eunillee and CMO, in linen, wool and high-tech fabrics. Metallics were everywhere in bronzes and golds, often set against icy or inky blues, with Nya Nordiska and Texturas por Alexandra at the forefront. This trendcould also be spotted in carpet design with Sweden's Kasthall using glittery threads adding glamour to their simple,one-colour carpets whilst Diurne showed classic high-end silk and wool mix rugs in subtle hues of blue, green and grey.
