Find your head space
Sound Magic’s Headphone Mix 2.0 is a special effect unit designed for people who make music on their headphone monitor system. It combines an environment simulation system – whereby you can set the room size, damp degree and reverb time of your work space – a frequency compensation system – comprising three filters to compensate for the inevitable frequency loss – and a built-in HRTF (head-related transfer function) algorithm to emulate the sound of a speaker through your headphones.
inevitable frequency loss – and a built-in HRTF
Headphone Mix operates at up to 32-bit/384kHz resolution and is supplied as a VST effect unit under Windows or as an add-on for Sound Magic Supreme Pianos. It is available from the Supreme Piano website at a price of €19.90, though existing customers pay just €15. Contact via website Web www.supremepiano.com

Having worked with such metal monsters as Metallica, Alice Cooper, Ozzy Osbourne, Megadeth and, er… Janet Jackson, the legendary engineer noticed that the BT-201/301 combination rendered most delightful to the ear: “I tried the combination on acoustic guitar and it was the best sound I’ve heard from any new mic,” he said. And it works on drums too:“The BT 301 is my go-to microphone for ride cymbal and the 201 sees a lot of use on hi-hat.”
The BT range features interchangeable, magnetically attached capsules offering cardioid, open cardioid, padded open cardioid (-20dB) and omni capsules. Both microphones excel on instruments that benefit from a high-frequency presence boost, making them ideal for string and percussion sections, too. The kit is expected soon. Prices are TBC.
