WELCOME TO PRACTICAL CARAVAN. By now I’m sure many of you will have returned from your summer holidays and your thoughts may be turning to some late summer weekends away in the caravan. Or if you’re lucky enough to have retired, maybe you’ve got a longer break planned now that the kids are corralled back behind the school gates. By the time you read this, Mrs Donnelly and I will be in the Loire Valley on the Select Sites/ Practical Caravan Reader Rally. Expect a full report in the magazine shortly, but I’ll be keeping you informed about our progress at www.practicalcaravan.com/blog during the event. I can’t wait for it to start.

Autumn means awards It seems that the leaves have been on the trees for only a matter of weeks, but the arrival of the Lawns Caravan Show always signals the start of autumn for me. It’s also where the Practical Caravan team decamp in order to finalise our judging for the Practical Caravan Tourer of the Year Awards. There is always a tough series of decisions to be made and a degree of pressure involved in choosing a caravan we think stands out from the crowd. If we choose right, you’ll think it was easy. Get it wrong and you’ll think we’re all idiots.

Regardless of the pressure, I don’t want you to worry about the difficult decisions we’ve got to make over the next couple of weeks. I just want to make sure that you don’t miss next month’s Awards issue of

Practical Caravan. It’ll have the best accessories we’ve seen this year, the best awnings, best caravans, a reminder of our Towcar Awards winners and even a pointer to dealers who’ve gone beyond the call of duty over the past season. It’s an essential read.

It’s nearly showtime By the time the Awards issue arrives on your doormat, you’ll be able to come and tell us in person that we’ve picked the wrong caravans when we meet at the NEC show from 11 October. We’ll be on the stand in the Practical Caravan hall, so please come along and say hello.

As discussed last month, the show has cheaper tickets than any autumn show since 2005 and it’s the only place in the Midlands where you’re guaranteed to see every new tourer this season. To whet your appetite, we’ve highlighted some of the things you’ll see at the show in the issue with a ‘Star of the show’ badge.

As if that weren’t great enough, we’ve got 50 show tickets to give away. But because we’re so close to the show date, the competition closes before the end of the issue. This means you need to be quick.
