A Historic First The UK’s first-ever Green member of parliament, Caroline Lucas, has promised to be a “radical and distinctive voice” in Westminster. The 49-year-old UK Green Party leader overturned a hefty Labour majority to win the Brighton Pavilion constituency and has now given up her MEP Strasbourg seat to usher a whole new political party into the British parliament. Promising to tackle those issues the other parties deftly avoided talking about publicly during their May election campaigns, Lucas told supporters:“As the other grey parties become increasingly indistinguishable, there is a need for a party out there that is voicing some of these issues.”
