IN OUR TIME
Feeding the 5,000 If we planted trees on land currently used to grow the surplus food we waste we could, in theory, offset 100% of human-derived greenhouse gas emissions.
Feeding the 5,000
That’s just one of the shameful food waste statistics highlighted by the Feeding the 5,000 (www.feeding5k.org) lunch in Trafalgar Square, London, where food that would otherwise have been wasted was turned into a gourmet-style free lunch.
In the UK, US and Europe, up to half the entire food supply is wasted between the farm and the fork.
