W lc m t Who’s your hero or heroine? We’ve all got one, whether it’s an historic figure from the midst of time, a star of the stage and screen, or a dear friend or relative who we’ve always looked up to.
War Two pilot Patrick Gifford, who bravely defended our skies at the outbreak of the war,
This month’s Scottish Memories is full of heroic characters, from World War Two pilot Patrick Gifford, who bravely defended our skies at the outbreak of the war, to the group of volunteers who have given their time and hard work to keep a little piece of history alive at the living museum project in Duncarron. Then there’s the footballers who filled us with hope as they prepared for the World Cup, and great minds such as writer Thomas Carlyle, whose writings have inspired and engaged.
In this month’s selection of reader memories we hear about more heroes, including the fathers who had to leave their family behind to fight for King and country. How strange to think that some children only met their brave dads once the war was finished, and that some sadly never returned home at all. Sharing stories of these brave and inspirational characters is a great way to keep their memory alive, so please keep your stories coming in.
Finally, thanks to everyone who took the time to complete our reader survey with the last issue of the magazine. Your feedback is appreciated and valued. If you missed the chance to share your views, don’t hesitate to get in touch.
