W lc m t They say variety is the spice of life and I would certainly agree with that sentiment when looking through this issue. There really is something for everyone in the magazine this month, and I’m always fascinated by the varied subjects shared by contributors and readers as we take our regular wander down memory lane.

We cover all kinds of topics, from pirate radio to punk rock, whisky to wartime bombers, and rare breeds to Victorian detectives, it’s all here! I guess it shows just how diverse and intriguing the past can be, and that there are countless stories for us to share.

I have to admit Aileen’s recollections of trying to be a punk (page 36) struck a chord with me. My moment of rebellion came during a long weekend when my hairdresser girlfriend decided my hair might look a little more edgy if it were dyed bright green. She was right, it certainly turned heads, but I was so worried that my mum might see it, I quickly dyed it black on the Sunday before going home! All those chemicals obviously had an effect as my hair has less of a presence than it once had, still, it saves the hairdresser girlfriend (now wife) from having to cut it!

As always, if you have a memory you would like to share don’t hesitate to get in touch. Whatever the subject, the Scottish Memories community are eager to hear about it as we continue to celebrate our incredible, interesting and always intriguing past.
