CONFERENCE: “TEXTILES FROM THE NILE VALLEY” The International research group “Textiles from the Nile Valley” (TF 4/09, p. 35) is going to prepare its 7th conference. Karine and Fernand Huts will host the participants at “HeadquARTers” in the heart of their business centre Katoen Natie, Van Aerdtstraat 33, B2060 Antwerp, Belgium. The conference will take place from Friday 7th to Sunday 9th October 2011, following the CIETA conference in Copenhagen.

The meetings will start with a reception and dinner on Friday evening. – After five meetings dedicated to a special theme the organisers considered it would be a good idea to focus on current individual research on textiles (e.g. discoveries during recent excavations, museum’s items, iconography, dating and colours, technology, conservation etc.) Scholars are invited to present their own projects and to discuss them among the participants. As usual, contributions – preferably in English, about 20 minutes + 10 minutes discussion – should be based on material from Egypt of the 1st millennium approximately. References and comparisons to neighbouring countries of the Mediterranean and the Near East are most welcome. Those who wish to give a paper in Antwerp are kindly requested to contact the organisers as soon as possible, preferably until the end of March 2011. For all those who would like to participate without giving a paper: Please, inform the organisers about your participation at the latest until 30 June 2011.

For more information please contact Prof. Dr. Antoine De Moor, Windekekouter 90, B9860 Scheldewindeke; e-mail: antoine.demoor@UGent.be
