(lunch not included, costs are about Euro 5.- to 10.-) National Heritage Day: Rumšiškės Open Air Museum, on 25 September 2011 This day starts with a visit to the Archives of the National Museum in Kaunas from 10 to 12 h on Sunday morning with a focus on ethnic textiles (techniques and patterns of aprons and sashes). By bus to Rumšiškės, 25 km from Kaunas, from 12 to 12.30 h. At the Open Air Museum of Rumšiškės there will be a special programme with national food tasting, weaving workshop, seeing weavings and ethnic costumes from the museum; Lithuanian wood architecture and traditions and the possibility for 20 persons to take a bath in a bathhouse. This visit ends with a traditional dinner in the museum area. - Start of the excursion 9.30 h (at location no. 2). Costs for museum entries and special programme Euro 30.- (Dinner and bath not included, costs are between Euro 7.- and 15.-) Amber Route: Trip to the Neringa Peninsula, 26 - 27 Sept. 2011 Two-days trip by bus to the seaside and spit Neringa. On the first morning (9 - 12 h) we will drive to the town of Klaipeda, where contemporary Lithuanian textile art will be exhibited in the main exhibition hall of the city. After visiting the exhibition we will have lunch until ~ 15 h. Then we will take a ferry to the spit Neringa (http://www.travel.lt/index.php/neringa/21046). The Curonian Spit is the peninsula dividing the Curonian Lagoon and the Baltic Sea. The Northern part belongs to the Republic of Lithuania, the remaining part to the Kaliningrad region of the Russian Federation. This unique place is considered to be the most beautiful spot on earth by the Lithuanians!

Through the Curonian Spit we will drive 31 km to Nida, where we will stay overnight at the new residency place of the Vilnius Art Academy. Discussions, artists’ presentations and special programmes can be held here. The dinner is planned at a ship restaurant.

The next morning we will go by bus to several towns of Neringa (in 10 - 15 km distance) and we will walk through the sandhills at the seaside. After lunch we will return to Kaunas. If we depart at 14 h, via Siauliai we can visit the Hill of the Crosses, a very special place for Lithuanians who place a cross on this hill at every important date of their lives (the communist regime removed all the crosses several times, but could not stop this phenomenon!). Sunset is at about 18 h on this day so we should arrive by 17 h. This visit is only possible, if the majority wants to see it. If not we will spend more time walking in the countryside. - Arrival in Kaunas at about 20 h

Costs of this trip, including hotel and breakfast (but not lunches and dinner) are Euro 70,-.
