VERANSTALTUNGSKALENDER International CALENDAR OF EVENTS __________________________________ 46 AUSBLICK TEXTILFORUM 4/2008 PREVIEW TEXTILE FORUM 4/2008 ____________________________ 57 EDITORIAL

When thinking about a theme to discuss this summer, paper art is an obvious choice Initially we only intended to cover the Holland Paper Biennial and the 6th Paper Triennial of Charmey, Switzerland, but a reader brought two other exhibiř tions of paper art to our attention, one in Poland and one in Austria Unrelated to these, we received a book by Elfi Knocheř Wendel, published upon her departure from her teaching post at the Paper/ Textiles Department of žainz University, and yet another unexpected arrival, the “Papier Luxus” (Paper Luxury€ catalogue documenting a study project and exhibiř tion by Linz Art University Incidentally, the latter show precedes the aforemenř tioned Austrian paper art exhibition, held at the žuseum of Papermaking, Steyrermühl, Salzkammergut Finally, the French publisher ENS Editions asked us to review a publication entitled “Textes et Textiles du žoyen Age á nos Jours” for our readers We had omitted it before because it requires good knowledge of French, due to its use of metaphor and images that can only be grasped by those familiar with original French literature The two books were written by authors previously introduced by us when featurř ing paper textiles in TF 4/2004: Christina Leitner from Linz and Odile Blanc from Lyon Both had studied the field of paper/ text/textiles in depth, and as Christina Leitner’s contribution to the “Papier Luxus” catalogue is both readable and highly interesting, we decided to introduce the subject with her text, originally in Gerř man but also, we hope, a good read in the English translation We trust that Odile Blanc will agree with this approach, and recommend her French publication to all those with an interest in the subject and the necessary language skills

Events in textile art and culture can be found in the ‘Reports’ and ‘Preview’ catř egories as well as the threeřcolumn main section of this issue The layout does not constitute a ranking; the main section merely contains contributions for which we had more detailed information or better illustrations

Some readers will notice the omission of two contributions previously announced The Estonian Artists’ Association failed to supply a detailed programme in advance of their 15th anniversary exhibition and conference, held in Tallinn this year Perř haps they simply dislike our curiosity, as occasional remarks to this effect by Baltic artists suggest

Our intended preview of the “Hannover goes Fashion” exhibition series proved to be both difficult and overly timeřconř suming, firstly because many of the ten organisers could not supply us with mateř rial in time for publication and secondly, because we did not have time to conduct the necessary interviews We will publish the review in our next issue Beatrijs Sterk/Dietmar Laue
