March Caption Competition

The winners of a fantastic Gordon 2 9ft 6in 7-wt rod are John Carnell, Ian Graham, Trevor Cousens, Kenneth Bruce, Dennis Lauder and Alex Reynolds. Alex came up with our favourite: “A tenner says I can s tand on one leg and balance half a pint on my shoulder for longer than you.”

Angling Even More Popular

THE Environment Agency (EA) has announced that £25 million from the sales of anglers’ rod licences will be ploughed back into improving fisheries this year.

Last year more rod licences were sold than ever before and similar sales are expected in 2010/2011.

All the money raised from the sale of your rod licence goes straight back into improving angling, allowing the EA to improve fish habitats,

monitor fish stocks, carry out restocking and fish rescues and help people take up fishing – all of which are vital as angling becomes more and more popular as a pastime.

All anglers in England and Wales (above the age of 12) must hold a valid rod licence and the new licence year started on April 1st.

You can purchase a licence for the 2010/11 season at Post Offices, online, over the phone or by direct debit.

The attractive credit-cardstyle licences feature pictures by celebrated wildlife artist David Miller, and this year show a barbel and a sea trout.

Prices are as follows: Coarse and non-migratory trout: Full £27; Concession £18; Junior £5 Salmon and migratory trout: Full £72; Concession £48; Junior £5
