Well, the time has come for another ‘themed’ issue, this time its a trend towards monochrome - good old black and white. Favoured by many a photographer due to its relative cheapness and possibility of ‘at home’ developing, there’s nothing can match a decent photo for providing some of the minute detail that’s lost in a colour exposure. Not that we’re avoiding colour altogether - I think our supportive advertisers might take a dim view if their wares weren’t displayed in colour. The same goes for some of Brian Penney’s photos, including the unusual shot of a ‘Warship’ with the Up ‘Cornish Riviera Limited’ taken from the cab of D601 Ark Royal. I hope you like the collection we’ve put together. As they say, ‘there’s more where that came from’ and we could produce another ‘black, white and well read’ issue in the future - it’s in your hands!

For those interested, the 2010/2011 TRACTION Annual is well underway and will be launched at the National Festival of Railway Modelling in Peterborough on October 16-17, if you’re going I’ll see you there and it will be my pleasure to sell you one; otherwise it will be available on our website the Monday after the show visit www.traction.co.uk.

Finally, can I put a ‘shout out’ to some former contributors to get in contact with me please? I’ve some material to return to them. They are: D Edwards formerly of Llandudno, Martyn Hilbert formerly of Leyland, Andrew Joyce, Ken Jones formerly of Woodley, Peter Hill formerly of Standish, R Nunn formerly of Gawthorpe, S C Spencer formerly of Edinburgh, P Durham formerly of Cheltenham, Chris Cowley formerly of Rhyl, Simon Bowler and S A Craig formerly of Worksop.
